Periculo awarded Armed Forces Covenant Silver

I'm proud to announce that Periculo has been awarded Silver in the Armed Forces Covenant Employer Recognition Scheme.

The scheme recognises employers who go beyond simply saying they support the Armed Forces community.

Silver isn't handed out for signing a pledge and moving on. It's awarded to organisations that can show they're actively doing the work: in how they recruit, the policies they run, and in how they look after the people who serve.

For a small, specialist team like ours, that means a lot.

When we signed the Armed Forces Covenant, we made a promise to make sure that serving personnel, veterans, reservists, cadets and their families are never disadvantaged by their connection to the Forces.

Silver is recognition that we're keeping that promise.

In practical terms, two things sit at the heart of it.

  1. We actively recruit from the military community and make our roles open and accessible to service leavers and veterans through Armed Forces hiring portals. People who've served bring discipline, composure under pressure and a mission-first mindset that you simply can't teach in a classroom. We'd be daft not to want that in our team.
  2. The second is our reservists. Reservists give up their own time to train and serve, and we think employers should make that easier, not harder. That's why we offer additional paid leave so reservists can attend training and deployments without having to burn through their holiday allowance to do it.

Our commitment doesn't stop with those in uniform. Military families make sacrifices too, and cadet forces do brilliant work developing the next generation.

Supporting the wider Forces community is part of what the Covenant is all about, and part of who we want to be.

For us, this isn't just a certification to hang on the wall. We're proud to have ex-service members already on the team, including colleagues who've served in the Army and, rather impressively, a former submariner.

The skills they've brought with them translate remarkably well to cybersecurity. Staying calm when things go wrong, following procedure to the letter, working as a tight unit and always thinking about the threat. Sound familiar? It's pretty much the job description.

All of this ties back to our mission: to support those who secure humanity.

Day to day, that means protecting organisations whose technology keeps people safe and well, including the defence organisations who keep the country safe.

The Armed Forces community are, quite literally, people who've dedicated themselves to securing others.

Supporting them through the Covenant felt like a natural extension of what we already stand for, not a box-ticking exercise.

It also shapes how we work. We've always seen ourselves less as a traditional consultancy and more as a precision team: embedded, focused on the mission, and with each other's backs. A lot of that ethos comes from the Forces, so it only feels right that we give something back.

Silver is a milestone, not the finish line. We'll keep building on our commitments, keep opening doors for service leavers and reservists, and keep looking for new ways to support the Forces community as the team grows.

A huge thank you to everyone in the team who helped make this happen, and especially to our ex-service colleagues for everything they bring to Periculo.

If you're leaving the Forces and thinking about a career in cybersecurity, or you're a reservist looking for an employer who'll back you, we'd love to hear from you.

Next stop: Gold!
